Is Vaava free?
Yes. Logging, calendar, trends, milestones, developmental tracking, Photo Book, CSV export, local Wi-Fi family data sharing, the local Wi-Fi baby monitor, and a built-in calming-sounds player with a free preset are free. Vaava Plus is a one-time purchase (€14.99) that unlocks voice dictation, easy growth-measurement scanning from photos, predicted adult height from biological parents' heights, Vaava Plus Family Data Sharing (backup, restore, and sharing across devices), remote household baby monitoring over the internet, daily summaries, premium Photo Book themes, and the full calming-sounds library.
Where is my baby's data stored?
By default, everything stays on your devices. If you turn on Vaava Plus Family Data Sharing, your data is backed up to Vaava's servers, but only as end-to-end encrypted ciphertext. Your devices hold the only keys, so even Vaava can't read your content.
Do I need an account to use Vaava?
No. Vaava works without a user account, email, or sign-in. Vaava Plus purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play.
How does local Wi-Fi data sharing work?
Family devices are paired with a QR code and share data directly over your local Wi-Fi. Data stays on your local network and is never sent to a server. For anywhere access, Vaava Plus also offers Vaava Plus Family Data Sharing.
What does the backend do?
Vaava's backend verifies purchases. If you enable Vaava Plus Family Data Sharing, it relays end-to-end encrypted (ciphertext) records and photos between your devices. It never receives decrypted content. Voice dictation and growth-scan send a short payload to an AI parsing service, processed transiently and not stored.
Is Vaava Plus a subscription?
No. It's a one‑time €14.99 purchase on the App Store or Google Play. There is no auto‑renewal and no trial.
Does Plus transfer to my other phone?
Yes, on the same platform (iPhone↔iPhone or Android↔Android) with the same store account used for the purchase. Use the Restore Purchases option. Cross-platform restore (iOS↔Android) is not yet available.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their store policies. Vaava cannot issue refunds directly.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Export all logged events to CSV at any time from the app settings.
How does the baby monitor work?
Local baby-monitor mode is free on the same Wi-Fi: a baby unit and a parent unit with cry alerts and hold-to-talk. Vaava Plus adds remote household monitoring over the internet (encrypted live audio). Both devices need internet. If remote fails, you can fall back to local Wi-Fi. Live audio only. No remote video, recording, or audio history.
Does the app have ads?
No. Vaava has no ads.
What does "Vaava" mean?
Vaava is a playful take on "vauva", the Finnish word for baby. The little sprout waving around this site is called Vaava too: our mascot, growing a little every day, just like the babies it helps track.
